If you're a young driver we want to make it easy for you to get car insurance that's comprehensive and affordable.
Here are some helpful tips for young drivers:
- Take a Ministry approved Drivers Education course after you get your G1. Taking this course allows you to get your G2 eight months after your G1, instead of waiting for a full twelve months. You may also get a discount on your car insurance rates.
- Get your full G license as soon as possible. This will lift some of the previous restrictions required by the G1 and G2. Insurance quotes are also typically lower for fully licensed drivers.
- Don't let your drivers license lapse. If you let your G1 or G2 lapse, you will have to start the whole process over again and you do not receive credit for your prior license.
- Once you have obtained your G2 license you will need to obtain a Driving History Abstract from the MTO to prove that drivers training has been completed. This is necessary when you are being added onto your parents policy as a new driver or setting up your own policy.
